THE MAN IN THE BOTTLE
Craving one more drink has been
The driving force he fights within
Each morning hopes today to win
The battle with the rum and gin
Like a vice grip held in sway
Trapped, he cannot get away
Wretched bondage everyday
Resolve drowned in drunk dismay
Lightly dreaming swimming free
Slowly drifting off to sea
Just one more sip and he shall see
The demons dancing round with glee
Floating drifting trapped at last
Caught inside the bottle glass
No escape, the mold is cast
The amber liquid holds him fast
Sick of suffering, trapped by lies
The more he fails the less he tries
Face pressed against the glass he cries
His last hope sputters, silent dies.
Out of death and dark despair
Someone hears his feeble prayer
Dashed against the rocks with care
Bottle shattered, prisoner spared.
